Greene County High School softball had a 5-11 overall record for the 2020 COVID-19 shortened season. The Rams won the first game of the season, then lost seven straight before going 4-4 over the last eight contests.

Todd Gordon, the Greene County Activities Director, commented to Raccoon Valley Radio about the campaign. “When you looked out there, the youth we had out on the field was unbelievable. I think the biggest thing we need to do with all of our programs is just keep them competing all year ’round. Same as baseball, had they been able to play a full schedule, gotten in a couple tournaments where they played two or three games in a day or weekend, it’s just more reps, more reps, more reps.”

The A.D. said he’s thankful the Rams played only the 14 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference games during the regular season. “I appreciate the coaches being on board with that, too, and not trying to do too much. I think maybe that helped us get through the season as well. They’re are a lot of good things returning for both softball and baseball.”

The State Softball Tournament starts today at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex north of Ft. Dodge. Fourth ranked Humboldt knocked the Rams out of the Class 3A Region 2 tourney in the second round. The Wildcats play tonight in the quarterfinal round.
