Dallas Center Grimes defeated third seeded Fairfield 7-5 Monday in the opening round of the Class 4A state softball tournament at Rogers Complex in Ft. Dodge.  The Fillies advance to the state semifinals with the victory.   The sixth seeded Fillies took the lead for good in the top of the third inning pushing across four runs.  Mollie Cooney delivered the key 3-run double to give the Fillies the lead 4-2.  Kam O’Brien added a pair of RBI’s offensively as both teams finished with six hits.  Lany Gannon earned the win despite fighting her control at times.  The future Grand View product went 5 1/3 innings scattering five hits and five walks while allowing five earned runs.  Senior Riley Hall earned the save pitching out of a jam in both the sixth and seventh innings.  Fairfield stranded the tying runs on base in the seventh.  DCG advances to the state semi’s tomorrow where they will take on Winterset.  The seventh seeded Huskies took down the two seed West Delaware.  Shawn Kenney will have the play by play on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com beginning at 11:15 Wednesday from Iowa Central Diamond.
