A Jefferson man was arrested Friday for allegedly passing bad checks.

According to court documents, 32-year-old Juan Guzman was charged with a Class B Felony for ongoing criminal conduct and six Class D Felonies for forgery. The charges stem from an incident that was first reported to the Jefferson Police Department on July 26th. An officer responded to the Casey’s General Store for an employee who confronted Guzman for allegedly trying to pass a $90 check from an account of a recently deceased individual.

The police department was then notified on July 30th from People’s Bank in Jefferson that Guzman had used three checks at Jefferson Hy-Vee totaling $450 and an $800 check was cashed at People’s Bank in Scranton. When authorities executed a search warrant at Guzman’s residence in the 1200 block of Westwood Drive, an undeposited $800 check was found that was dated for August 2nd. Guzman was arrested following the warrant from Carroll County for theft.

Guzman was then booked into the Greene County Jail and was then transported to the Carroll County Jail. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
