Yard waste site near Daubendiek Park in Jefferson

The Jefferson Public Works Department has announced new information regarding storm brush for residents.

Public Works Director Dave Morlan tells Raccoon Valley Radio a private contractor is continuing to pick up brush alongside the right of ways throughout town. However, Morlan points out for the brush to be picked up, it must be neatly stacked and no longer than 15-feet. Morlan adds, if brush and tree limbs are longer than 15-feet, it will not be picked up.

Morlan says brush piles cannot block fire hydrants and vehicles must not be parked in front of the piles for them to be picked up. He notes City crews will not pick up storm brush at the end of this month, due to the extent of the clean-up City crews are already facing. Morlan estimates it will take at least three months before City crews have fully cleaned up the town. He reminds residents that it is the property owners responsibility to take down any broken tree limbs or fallen over trees that are in the right of way. He encourages residents to take brush to the City’s yard waste site near Daubendiek Park, which also includes hauling whole trees.
