On the first day of the 2020-2021 school year an Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center high school student has tested positive for COVID-19.

Superintendent Dennis McClain says all ACGC parents were notified of the case Monday evening. He says the student was at the high school Monday, and as contact tracing has been performed around a dozen individuals have been identified as having been within six feet of the person for 15 minutes or longer. Those people have all been asked to quarantine for 14 days, and the individual who has tested positive must quarantine for 10 days. Those quarantined are asked to monitor for symptoms including a fever over 100 degrees fahrenheit, feeling feverish, chills, muscle aches, headache, runny nose, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath or chest heaviness, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of sense of taste and smell, and rashes. Those quarantined should try to stay in the home in a separate area such as a bedroom or basement away from the rest of the family.

McClain adds that those quarantined will continue learning remotely online. ACGC also asks community members to stay home when sick or someone in your family becomes ill, wash your hands frequently, especially after using a tissue for nasal secretions, and cover coughs and sneezes with tissues and dispose of them properly.
