Guthrie Center’s Mitchell Park will continue to see improvements after the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County held their third quarter meeting Tuesday night.

Almost 30 women attended the meeting in person while about 20 members attended over Zoom to hear presentations on behalf of the Guthrie County Arts Council, Guthrie Center and Panora fire departments, and Panora P.E.T.S. After hearing about the three projects the group voted to give an approximate $11,000 donation to the Arts Council, which is the first time the organization has received funds from 10 Squared Women. Arts Council member Ruth Owen says the funds will go towards a musical playground similar to those in Panora, Okoboji, and other communities, to be located south of the Guthrie Center Aquatic Center. Owen says the Arts Council enjoys partnering with other organizations for community projects, “Well, when we got the idea we had invited the Parks and Rec. Board to come to one of our meetings and they had already started developing a program for renovation of the park and we told them that we would like to be a part of that by helping raise the funds for the musical instruments which I think will be a big help to the Parks and Rec. Board because they can take that money and do something else more exciting.”

Owen says she is grateful to the 10 Squared Women of Guthrie County for their donation. The group is open to any Guthrie County resident, which can nominate projects to seek donations. More information can be found here.
