After months of no performances and adapting to the changes COVID-19 has brought, the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Marching Band is ready for its first halftime performance this Friday during the homecoming football game.

This year’s show has a “kick butt” theme with music featuring the NFL countdown song, music from the Skyrim videogame, and the song “Monster” by Skillet. Though the band has naturally adapted to social distancing as they perform outside and in spaced out positions, they are using instrument bell covers and face masks to limit the spread of droplets as much as possible. Drum Major EmmaKay McClain says the band has been motivated to keep the season on track, “As someone who played softball this summer, as long as we stay to our guidelines and try to stay healthy outside of our school activities, because if everyone comes in negative we’re not going to get it from here. So we just gotta remember to keep ourselves from being in a position outside of our extracurriculars that’s going to expose us to any sort of sicknesses. So we’re trying to stay optimistic at this point and work hard so that if we do get to do our performances that they’re good and at the same quality or if not better than they were last year.”

Besides home halftime performances, the ACGC Marching Band still hopes to keep the Carroll Band Day Parade on their calendar, which is currently set for October 3rd.
