Raccoon Valley Radio talked with Activities Director Todd Gordon mid-afternoon Monday. At that time, the Rams did not have an opponent for their Homecoming football game this Friday night, nor will they be playing volleyball this Thursday. Place the blame on COVID-19.

Des Moines Christian was supposed to have been the football opponent, but the Lions will miss a second straight game due to a positive test. Coach Gordon told Raccoon Valley Radio he’s going to keep trying to find someone to play today, and even tomorrow, if needed. Typically, a team in the Rams’ situation needs to find another team that has an opponent with a positive test. Even then, geography and class size could come into play.

In volleyball, South Hamilton is under quarantine, so the Rams won’t be playing the Hawks this week. That match was originally scheduled for the new high school gym in Jefferson, but was moved to Jewell because the gym isn’t ready for competition yet. Coach Gordon said the Hawks and Rams are looking at possible dates in October to play, and if that is the case, the new HS gym here would likely be ready and Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team would get another home match. They haven’t had any matches in Jefferson yet.

That’s the COVID-19 world we are living in. Raccoon Valley Radio will continue to provide updates on the situation.
