As with COVID-19, plans for anything seem to change at a moment’s notice, including high school sports.

This Friday is the homecoming football game for Greene County High School. The original opponent was supposed to be Des Moines Christain High School. However, due to a positive test case that put the brakes on the football season, for now, that left the Rams without an opponent. Superintendent Tim Christensen says thanks to Activities Director Todd Gordon, the Rams are playing Nodaway Valley for tonight’s matchup.

Gordon urges anyone coming to tonight’s game to remember to wear a mask as you enter the stadium and in the common areas such as the restrooms and concession stand. He adds another preventative measure people need to take in the fight against COVID-19.

“It’s hard to stay home if you don’t feel well or if you feel like you have a symptom or two. I think that’s one thing just people need to realize too that if they’re sick or they feel ill, they just need to stay home.”

As part of the changes to the homecoming activities, the king and queen coronation ceremony will take place at halftime. Raccoon Valley Radio will announce the king and queen during our live broadcast of the game and on the radio stations’ Twitter and Facebook pages. The live play-by-play broadcast begins at 6pm with kickoff slated for 7pm on 98.9FM KGRA.
