With the fall season upon us, that means hunting seasons are underway here in Iowa.

Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers tells Raccoon Valley Radio youth and disabled deer hunting seasons open this weekend and run through October 4th. He says these seasons have become very popular recently.

“So many people have their own piece of timber anymore with food plots and that, and they watch deer all year. In the first season that you’re able to go out and pursue those is the youth deer season. I think because of that, a lot of adult hunters have gotten their children involved and get out there the first time they have a chance at those deer. So it really is a popular sport.”

Towers reminds hunters that a child doesn’t need a valid hunting license if they are under 16-years-old, but they need to be accompanied by a licensed adult. Small game hunting season for squirrels and rabbits opened September 1st for hunters of all ages.
