Grant applications are now being accepted to help rural fire departments battle wildfires.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service is providing grant funds for rural fire departments to purchase wildfire equipment. Grant funds can be used to buy wildfire suppression equipment, slide-in units, hoses, nozzles, adapters, portable tanks and pumps, personal protective equipment and communications equipment. Fire departments can also request special needs if they can be tied directly to wildfire suppression.

The grants are 50-percent reimbursement with a maximum of $3,500 per department. Applications for the 2020 Volunteer Fire Assistance grants will be accepted until October 15th. Click the link below to access the grant application.
