Early voting starts Monday in Iowa for the November general election.

Any eligible voter in Greene County can vote in person at the Greene County Auditor’s Office starting Monday and up until Election Day on November 3rd. However, those who would like to vote by absentee ballot must first submit a request form. The Iowa Secretary of State’s Office has mailed those request forms to all eligible voters, much like they did for the June Primary Election.

Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg tells Raccoon Valley Radio that some county auditors were filling out the request forms for their voters, which he didn’t believe was the right thing to do. However, since the approval from the Legislative Council to allow the Secretary of State to mail out request forms this time, he was in support of that decision.

“The key here is to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat. I think we’ve struck that balance pretty well under Iowa law. I do expect more people than normal are going to be using the absentee ballot process, and that’s okay, as long as we do it the right way.”

Democratic candidate for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District J.D. Scholten urges everyone to vote, especially those that have never voted before or who typically don’t vote.

“You look at who doesn’t vote and it tends to be people who feel like they aren’t a part of the system. Well, I got news for folks, if you’re not voting, the system is going to work against you.”
