The last regular season football game of 2020 is Friday for the Greene County Rams at Shenandoah. Coach Caden Duncan’s team is riding a three game winning streak after an overtime victory vs. Clarinda on Friday night by a 22-15 score at Linduska Field in the last scheduled home game of the season. The Rams take a 4-2 record to Page County vs. the 3-3 Mustangs, who were blanked 28-0 on Friday vs. Atlantic.

In this COVID-19 shortened regular season, the upcoming postseason has all teams qualifying for the postseason for the first time since the playoffs began in 1972, and in most of Iowa’s six classes of football there will be byes for some teams for round one. Greene County isn’t likely to be in line for one of the first round byes in Class 2A, but the Rams could host a first round contest on Oct. 16, especially if they win the regular season finale Oct. 9 and compile a 5-2 record.

With only one week left in the regular season, there are just four unbeaten teams in 2A with nine more having one loss. Greene County is one of 10 teams in 2A with two losses, but one of just four that are 4-2. The other six have played fewer than six games with one of those teams just 1-2 on the season.

Although the Rams are 2-0 on the road and 2-2 at home, they would welcome a home game in the postseason. Greene County already has a winning record in the regular season clinched, and if the Rams record a victory at Shenandoah, they would guarantee a winning season overall, and likely have another opportunity to play at Linduska Field.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association is said to be scheduled to release playoff first round pairings around noon this Saturday.
