Greene County sends its high school and middle school cross-country teams to Saydel High School on the northeast side of Des Moines today for the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s Rams are familiar with the course after having run at Saydel’s regular season meet on Oct. 8. In addition to the host Eagles and the Rams, teams in the conference include Nevada, PCM (Monroe), Roland-Story (Story City), South Hamilton (Jewell), and newcomer West Marshall (State Center).

Middle school races are set to start at 4 p.m. with high school races to follow.

Coach Lamoureux told Raccoon Valley Radio “Part of the reason we liked being in Saydel’s regular season meet is because we knew the conference meet was being held there this year. I like the course. It starts on the football field and goes all over the school grounds and ends on the track.”

The coach expects State Qualifying Meet assignments to be released any day now. Greene County boys will run on Oct. 21 in Class 3A and the girls run in a 2A meet on Oct. 22.
