There will be a noticeable change in temperatures for the rest of this week, compared to this last weekend.

Weatherology Meteorologist Michael Karow says after today’s highs in the 70s, temperatures will dip down to mid to lower 50s this week, then pick back up to almost 70 on Sunday, but then back down to the 40s to start next week. Karow notes that while the temperatures will be in the 50s, which is more like the beginning of November, there is a potential for the first hard freeze of the year expected next week.

“Potentially as low as the upper 20s overnight for your Sunday night. So that would be definitely a hard freeze there for Sunday night. So not the earliest that we’ve seen in the climatologically speaking with the hard freezes. Some of the earliest that we’ve seen – looking back over the past 20, or 30 years, or so – would be late September.”

Karow says there is a strong arctic frontal boundary working its way from the Northwest region that will not only bring much colder temperatures, but high wind gusts today.

“Sustained winds in the 15-25 mile-per-hour range, and even into your Thursday (will have) elevated winds, not quite as strong, in that 10-20 mile-per-hour range. But yeah, it’s going to be another couple of days here of hold onto your hats, hold onto your steering wheels the next few days.”

Karow adds that due to higher wind gusts for the next couple of days, that will also bring increased fire danger to the area. So he suggests holding off any open burning at least until Friday.
