Iowans’ enrollment period to review their medicare plan and shop for different coverage options for 2021 begins today.

Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) Counselor at Dallas County Hospital Lou Hoger recommends everyone eligible for Medicare to take the time each year and make sure they’re on the right plan, “Even if they’ve never ever had their prescription drug coverage evaluated, they should come talk to us. A lot of them don’t realize that they could be saving money. A lot of seniors, their finances are an issue. People oftentimes just stick to what they have. There are people for example who are committed to a pharmacy, that doesn’t mean you need to change pharmacies, and when we do the plan finder, we find that they can get cheaper coverage at another place, but it’s going to show also what’s cheapest at that pharmacy.”

Hoger adds he’s excited to help anyone who has any questions about their Medicare coverage. Open enrollment ends on December 7th. To set up an appointment, call Dallas County Hospital at 515-465-3547.
