The cities of Adel and Van Meter recently received designation as Home Base Iowa communities. 

Home Base Iowa is a program that helps veterans transition to civilian life while connecting them with more than 2,400 businesses committed to hiring veterans. To be classified as an HBI community, the city has to develop incentive packages for veterans, have 10% of hiring businesses pledge to hire veterans and obtain a resolution of support from the appropriate local governing body. HBI has helped more than 16,000 veterans find employment, partnering with 106 communities in Iowa and 27 colleges and universities.
