Paton-Churdan won its opening round Class 1A Region 3 volleyball match on Monday night at Ft. Dodge St. Edmond. Coach Tressa Rasmussen’s Rockets improved to 9-9 on the season while the Gaels ended with a 4-8 mark. Scores were 22-25, 19-25, 25-15, 27-25, 15-6. The coach said she was very proud of the girls were battling back from being down to sets to none and winning the match.

The Rockets put up some gaudy numbers, particularly from the service line. The girls were a combined 105-109 (96.3%) with 18 service aces. Two Rockets were 26 of 26 serving. They were Karissa Stephenson and Chloe Berns. Berns had six aces and Stephenson two. Danielle Hoyle was 18 for 18 with one ace, while Tessa Steimel went 15 for 15 with four aces.

Bailey Anderson had 18 digs with Hoyle at 28 digs, 26 for Stephenson, and 12 for Carmyn Paup. Hoyle had 28 kills with 13 for Steimel. Paup had six kills and Stephenson four.

P-C goes even farther from home in the next round tomorrow night in Ackley vs. 9-13 AGWSR at 7 p.m.
