Class 3A State Qualifying Meet cross-country races for Iowa high school girls and boys were held on Wednesday. Greene County ran at the Winterset meet and did not have anyone qualify for State competition, so the season is over for the Rams. The top three teams and top 15 individuals qualified for State.

The top individual for the Rams was junior Logan Woodruff. He finished in 29th place in the boys’ five kilometers (3.1 miles) race in a time of 18:01. Jayden Carstensen was 47th in 18:53, Dakota Mobley 50th in 18;58, Ethan Frederick 54th in 19:04, and Luis Velazc0 59th in 19:23. Of the point scorers, only Velazco is a senior.

The Greene County girls had the minimum five runners to qualify for a team score for the first time in the last few weeks. Leading the Rams was Conner Allender in 57th place in 24:12. Makala Kafer was 63rd in 25;13, Olivia Shannon 68th in 25:29, Autumn Stevens 69th in 25:41, and Sadie Wilson 73rd in 27:53.

Dallas Center-Grimes was first, ADM second, and Glenwood third in the boys’ race. Greene County was eighth among 12 teams. DC-G, Glenwood, and Winterset went one, two, three in the girls’ race with Greene County eleventh among 12 teams.

Jeff Lamoureux is the head coach of both Greene County teams. He said, “Both boys and girls continued to improve as the season progressed. We had several PRs (Personal Record) today, which is a great way to end the season. We have a lot of good things to build on and a great core of runners returning next year for the boys. I am very proud of the effort given throughout the season.”
