Des Moines Area Community College Perry VanKirk Career Center is expanding its emergency medical technician academy for the upcoming spring semester.

DMACC Perry Director Eddie Diaz tells Raccoon Valley Radio the program that was previously only offered to current high school students will now to be open to everyone this spring, “Of course, all of DMACC offers a wide variety of courses, but here at the center, we’re excited about a couple of courses in particular. One of them is our EMT academy. We have an opportunity to offer a six-credit course for people that want to become an EMT. I’ve been given the opportunity now to offer it to adult students. So if you’re an adult that wants to get into the EMT field, this is a good opportunity because they’re not offered in a lot of places, and in one semester, you can be certified to become an EMT. “

Diaz says this expansion stems from the excitement and turnout from dual-enrolled students in the program’s first year. Enrollment is now underway for the spring semester. You can find more information on how to enroll in classes here.
