Greene County shut out Clarinda 24-0 in Class 2A second round football playoff action on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The win was the sixth straight for Coach Caden Duncan’s team and the 7-2 Rams advance to the round of 16 on Friday, Oct. 30 while the Cardinals end with a 4-5 record with two of the losses to the Rams. The first meeting was 22-15 in overtime, and this time the Cardinals never came close to scoring. The pairings for the next round will be released today at noon on the Iowa High School Athletic Association website.

Junior running back Nathan Black carried the ball 39 times of 186 yards, both career highs. One of the carries went for a touchdown from 23 yards out. Junior quarterback  In all, the Rams ran for 239 yards on 54 attempts. Bryce Stalder was five of nine passing and he has not thrown an interception since week three. The Rams had 88 yards through the air for 327 total. Senior Jaxon Warnke caught his eighth TD pass of the season, this time from four yards out with one minute left in the game. The first TD of the game was the first for Jessi Miller as a varsity player. The 6′ 5″ sophomore scored on a 21 yard pass play  on fourth and nine from Stalder. Miller had two catches for 42 yards and Warnke had three for 46. Freshman Nathan Behne kicked a 21 yard field goal, the first of his varsity career, and he went three for three on extra points.

The offensive line was dominant, as was the Greene County defense, holding the Cardinals to 127 total yards and no closer than the Rams’ 39 yard line. Junior Bradyn Smith, senior Sawyer Schiltz, and sophomore Patrick Daugherty each recovered a Clarinda fumble.
