Iowa state parks and the National Association of State Foresters are both celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, and are partnering to plant 100,000 trees on state lands, including in Guthrie County.

Springbrook State Park invites volunteers to come help plant trees at 1 p.m. this Thursday. Park staff will be planting 100 trees including hackberry, hickory, black cherry, and kentucky coffeetree in several locations around the park. Volunteers are asked to meet outside the park office with gloves and spades if they have them. They will plan to plant and mulch the young trees, and add tubes and cages as temporary protection from wildlife damage.
