Jamie Brenner, hired in November 2020

For the second time in as many Jefferson City Council meetings, the Council approved another patrol officer.

Jamie Brenner was approved as Jefferson’s newest police officer at the previous City Council meeting on November 10th. Brenner is a 2018 graduate from Gilbert High School. While in high school, she was dual-enrolled in nursing classes with Des Moines Area Community College. She then attended North Iowa Area Community College on a volleyball scholarship for one year, until she made the switch into law enforcement. She talks about why she switched careers.

“So I thought that nursing was for me. I went to NIACC my first in nursing and I didn’t really like it. I do have sympathy for caring for people. I was really inspired by actually my best friend’s mom actually works for the Story County Sheriff’s Department. She was kind of inspiring to me because she said that you do take care of people, you watch over communities. I just really liked that aspect, and I’ve been interested ever since.”

Brenner is looking forward to working within the community and establishing a positive rapport with the children in Jefferson. She will be attending the full, 17-week program at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in January. She started Friday, November 13th with a beginning salary of $43,618. The Council previously hired Bohden Bigler at their regular meeting on October 27th.
