The Perry Public Library will take the next step to re-open the library to the public.

The library first closed in March at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure continued as construction began on a remodeling project to feature new flooring, renovated bathrooms, and an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) friendly entrance. Library Director Mary Murphy tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Library Administration Board voted to reopen the facility on Tuesday, November 24th. Once the doors are open, patrons can come in and browse the library. Computer services will continue to be offered by appointment only. Murphy says a lot of time and effort has been put in to ensure the environment is as safe as possible for staff and patrons, “We’ve had a lot of time to think about it, and a lot of time to observe what other libraries have been doing, what the schools have been doing, and what businesses have been doing. What I have gleaned from all that research is wearing a mask. Masks help you and help other people also. We have (personal protective equipment) for the staff. We have masks for anybody who comes into the building. We have hand sanitizer stations placed all over the library.”

The library plans to host a virtual reopening ceremony, and those details will be released in the coming weeks. You can hear more from Murphy on today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program on KDLS and RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
