The word normal hasn’t been used a whole lot since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in March. That continues to be the case for Winter sports teams at Greene County High School. The girls began basketball practice on Nov. 9, but the boys’ basketball and wrestling teams have yet to begin. All three are on hiatus right now due to 100% virtual learning in the Greene County School District. No practices or events of any kind are allowed when school is 100% virtual.

Chris Nelson is the boys’ basketball head coach and he talks about when he believes practice will start. “The way it stands right now we’ll begin on November 25. School is actually on Thanksgiving break, but we’ll have an early morning practice that day before they go have turkey dinner.”

Greene County has pushed back the starting date for competition with the first games now on Friday, Dec. 4 in Jefferson at the brand new Greene County High School gym with Roland-Story (Story City) in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader. Both games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
