The COVID-19 has caused a Greene County sports related cancellation, but it’s not an athletic contest. Greene County Activities Director Todd Gordon announced Monday afternoon the Athletics Hall of Fame activities scheduled for January 2021 have been cancelled. The A.D. cited current COVID conditions, along with the seating restrictions at high school winter sports set forth by Gov. Reynolds. A maximum of two spectators per player on a team is all that’s being allowed in-person. In addition, fans are to exit the facility as soon as their players’ contest is over and not stay for the next game.

The Athletics Hall of Fame was started by Gordon last school year, which was his first in the Greene County School District. The 1994 Jefferson-Scranton girls’ track & field State Championship team, former J-S activities director, teacher, and head football coach Bill Kibby, and past J-S athletes Trisa Waugh Pipkins, Kristi Kinne Hayes, and Brent Mac Lagan were in the first induction class.

Gordon said he’s hopeful Hall of Fame festivities can resume in January 2022.
