Greene County won’t start the basketball season tomorrow night in the new high school gym vs. Roland-Story (Story City). The action originally was to have been a girl/boy doubleheader, but that was changed to boys only due to COVID-19 concerns, then word came Thursday afternoon that no basketball games would be held Friday in Jefferson. The makeup date is Saturday, Jan. 30 in Jefferson for both ends of the girl/boy Heart of Iowa Activities Conference doubleheader.

The Rams haven’t won a varsity girls’ basketball game vs. Roland-Story (Story City) since Feb. 10, 2015. During that span, R-S has won 12 games in a row vs. the Rams, including three last season by scores of 76-11, 85-19, and 55-30. The third meeting was in the second round of Class 3A Regional play.

Senior Sadie Wilson was a part of that team, and even though the Rams lost, she talks about what was gained in that game. “I think it gave me, and not just me, but everybody, a lot more confidence in our team. A lot of the season we didn’t have a lot of confidence, and after that game I think we got much more.”

The girls and boys’ games with Ogden for Saturday are still on and can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage is set to begin at 12:40 a.m. with the girls playing at 1 p.m. and the boys to follow inside the Greene County HS gym.
