Greene County wrestlers have just one more week to wait for their first competition after getting a later than usual start to practice. That’s because the school district was on 100% virtual learning from Nov. 16-24 and no practices or school activities of any kind could be held during that time. Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams started practice on Nov. 25, had Nov. 26 off for Thanksgiving, practiced two more days, then rested on Sunday. It’s been a normal week of practice this week in preparation for the Dec. 10 opener in Adel vs. ADM and Gilbert.

One of the more experienced returning letter winners for the Rams is senior Brady Stauffer. He certified at 138 lbs., the same weight he wrestled as a junior. Stauffer talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about what he’s done to return to 138. “I changed my diet, did a lot of running, wrestling, and sauna.” Stauffer, Chance McCollom, and Isaac Louk, have wrestled this fall in Perry and Des Moines as many as three nights a week, training with Pablo Ubassa, and others. Brady said those workouts got the metabolism going, and knocked the rust off before official wrestling practice began.
