The season opening basketball games for the Greene County Rams were held Saturday in the brand new high school gymnasium against the Ogden Bulldogs. The Rams won the girls’ game 49-26 and the Bulldogs won the boys’ contest by a 58-50 final. The games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Coach Todd Gordon won his debut as the Rams’ girls head coach. Junior Brianna Habben scored a career high 28 points and went 10 of 16 from the floor while the rest of the team went seven for 31. The Rams were 13 of 20 from the free throw line and two for 11 from three-point range. Forty turnovers in a 23-point victory are extremely rare, but that was the case on Saturday. Senior Makala Kafer scored 10 points. Ogden (0-2) didn’t scored until the second quarter and trailed 18-0 before getting the board. The Bulldogs turned the ball over 32 times.

The Ogden boys improved to 2-0 and never trailed. The only tie was at 2-2. The Bulldogs were up 30-26 at halftime and expanded the lead to 45-35 in the fourth quarter before the Rams scored nine in a row to get within a point at 45-44. Ogden withstood the run and increased the lead to 11 points late. Kolby Moorman scored 16 points and Ty Heeren added 14 for Ogden. The Rams were led by juniors Bryce Stalder and Caden Telleen with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Greene County played without five players including three likely starters due to a combination of injury and COVID-19 concerns.
