After having the start of the Greene County Rams varsity high school basketball seasons delayed three times by COVID-19 concerns, the Rams finally played last Saturday. The non-conference doubleheader in the new high school gym in Jefferson was with Ogden and the teams split their games. Greene County won 49-26 in the girls game after building a lead of 18-0 to start. Ogden never trailed in the boys game and won 58-50.

Continuity is one thing the Rams are hoping for now that those first games have been played. Greene County is scheduled to open the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference season in Jewell tomorrow night vs. South Hamilton before returning home on Friday night vs. PCM (Monroe), then traveling for a make up twin bill Saturday afternoon in Perry. All three are girl/boy doubleheaders that will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Greene County isn’t the only school district by far that’s had disruption of classes and activities due to the pandemic. The Rams have six basketball playing dates on the schedule between now and the start of the break for the holidays and all involved are hoping for no further interruptions.
