The first Greene County High School Basketball games of 2021 resulted in a pair of losses to Webster City on Tuesday night in the new high school gymnasium in Jefferson. Both games were broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Coach Todd Gordon’s girls team fell 53-18 and now stands at 2-4 with a three game losing streak. The Lynx led 11-0 before the Rams got on the board with only 58 seconds left in the first period. Leah Kasch had 16 points, Jenna Miller 13, and Kelley Stoakes 10, for the Lynx, who won for the first time in six games. Sadie Wilson had nine points for the Rams on three goals from three-point range. Greene County turned the ball over 30 times to 14 for WC, and the Lynx had a big advantage shooting the ball. They were 21 of 40 while the Rams made seven of 32 tries from the field.

The boys, coached by Chris Nelson, are 0-6 to start the season after losing 53-38. For the second game in a row, Greene County was within range at the end of the third quarter, but woeful shooting in the last minutes cost them a chance at victory. The Rams were one of 10 from the floor in the final quarter and the lone basket came with four seconds remaining in the game. Greene County went 15 of 44 from the floor with two long scoring droughts. WC improved to 2-2 and led 13-0 before the Rams put any points on the board, and those came after 8:57 of playing time had lapsed. The Rams went the first 6:48 of the fourth quarter with no points. Those droughts saw Greene County go 0-21 from the field, but they were 14 of 23 the rest of the game. WC had 24 points from Tyler Olson, while no Ram scored in double figures. Jesse Miller led the Rams with nine points.

Greene County is at home again on Friday night vs. Saydel (Des Moines) in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. The action can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
