Emergency kits can evolve and change throughout the seasons as people prepare for different situations .

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf says while it’s good to remember to make sure you carry supplies in your vehicle, it’s also good to have a kit available in the home for wintertime.

“A lot of people change those over to things they’d carry with them if they had to leave their home. One of the things we experience a day or two maybe with the power being out. You have to take a look at your emergency kit and change it over to where you have a stack of blankets, making sure that there’s a good supply of ready-to-eat foods available in your home being as you won’t be able to use a microwave or stove.”

Kempf recommends going to http://ready.gov to view a complete list of things you should have in your emergency kit, as well as putting together a personal emergency plan with your family. Resources are also available on the Emergency Management Agency’s website here.
