Late muzzleloader and second archery seasonS are wrapping up in Iowa.

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, both hunting seasons end this Sunday. Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers reminds muzzleloader hunters that they are required to wear at least a blaze orange vest, and for archery hunters they can wear camouflage clothing. He talks about the two main public hunting areas in the county.

“Dunbar Slough, whether it’s a pheasant hunter, or there is a pretty good deer herd actually around Dunbar Slough, it’s the biggest public area. In the last few years the DNR has done a great job of adding some more river timber access, northwest of Jefferson. There’s probably 80-percent of the timber is public-owned now between Jefferson and one-mile north of Highway 30. So that’s about an eight-mile stretch that has a lot of public access.”

Towers adds that hunters need to remember to look for the green Wildlife Management Public Hunting signs along the river timber, so that you avoid hunting on privately-owned land.
