If you have a driver’s license that has expired for most of last year and haven’t renewed it yet, you might face a penalty.

Greene County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Governor’s Public Health Proclamation for delaying to renew expired driver’s licenses ended last week. She says that means anyone with a driver’s license prior to November 9th that has expired will need to be renewed, or they may face a citation or a fine from law enforcement. Mechaelsen notes if you have a driver’s license that is one year or more expired, you will be required to take the written and driving test.

Mechaelsen points out the time frame following your birthday is back in effect, which means you have 60-days to renew your license following your birthday. She urges those that have their renewal period coming up to wait until their birthday to schedule an appointment with her office. The driver’s license station is only open two days per week, on Mondays and Wednesdays. Scheduled appointments are allowed at this time, no walk-ins will be permitted. Contact the County Treasurer’s office at 515-386-5675 to schedule an appointment.
