A 14-year old girl is in custody after a high-speed chase from Coon Rapids ended with a crash on Iowa Highway 141 East in Perry.

According to Iowa State Patrol, the suspect stole a Coon Rapids Patrol Vehicle and was clocked at speeds of over 110 miles per hour. Stop sticks were deployed to end the pursuit.  Sergeant Alex Dinkla says they’re grateful that no injuries were sustained in the chase.

“We see these vehicles day in and day out that are trying to travel at excessive speeds, and when you have a young driver not experienced behind the wheel, probably hasn’t had much driving time. I’m not sure the person has a legal permit. It’s very scary, very dangerous and we’re very concerned with the other motoring public as well as that driver trying to operate the motor vehicle. It could have easily had a different outcome, but we’re very thankful it ended peacefully.”

Dinkla says the suspect was transported initially to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. As she is a juvenile, he was unable to comment further on where her final destination was. Charges filed include: First-degree theft, theft of firearms, eluding and several other traffic-related charges.

Agencies assisting the Iowa State Patrol were Coon Rapids Police Department, Perry Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and Greene County Sheriff’s Office.
