The Iowa State Patrol had six different law enforcement agencies help with a high-speed chase over the weekend from Coon Rapids to Perry.

State Patrol Sergeant Alex Dinkla says coordination between departments is much easier using the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System (ISICS).

“When law enforcement has any pursuit, typically they will switch over to a state frequency programmed in all the radios. With a couple clicks on the computer, those neighboring radio frequencies can easily be patched into the state frequency where that one person might be pursuing another vehicle. Therefore, all agencies can talk on one frequency with one click of the mic, they can all talk together.”

The Iowa Department of Public Safety notes that while the ISICS  allows law enforcement and first responders the ability to communicate with one another for many situations, such as natural disasters, other emergencies and even during large-events to coordinate crowds and equipment or direct traffic around a hazard.
