Paton-Churdan’s girls and Manson-Northests Webster’s boys were non-conference basketball winers in Churdan Monday night. The Rockets improved to 9-2 with a 44-27 girls victory while the Cougars girls dropped to 1-8. The M-NW boys are now 1-8 and the Rockets 3-8 after a 58-57 final.

Danielle Hoyle scored 21 points to lead the P-C girls. Carmyn Paup added 10 with seven from Tessa Steimel and six for Chloe Berns. Coach Tom Kennedy’s team is off to one of its best starts in recent seasons.

Bud Fagen told Raccoon Valley Radio the Cougars won on a last second layup. The Rockets were ahead 18-9 after one quarter and 34-21 at the half. The Cougars started to make their move in the third quarter and trailed 45-41 heading into the final eight minutes, then completed the comeback with the buzzer beating layup. The Rockets were led by three players scoring in double figures. Shaydon Thurman had 15 points and seven rebounds with 14 points and 10 rebounds for Bradyn Smith, while Joe Carey had 14 points. Smith led in assists with three.

The fourth and final consecutive home date is tonight in Churdan with Ar-We-Va (Westside) visiting in a Rolling Valley Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader.
