The Guthrie Center City Council set a public hearing date of February 8 for the maximum property tax request for the fiscal year 2022 budget during its regular meeting Monday.

The Council also renewed appointments to several committees at the meeting. Keith Hjelle was reappointed to the board of adjustments for a five-year term. Matt Pearey will serve another two years on the airport authority. Being reappointed to the Swim Team Parent Board wasCara Underwood, Renee Gruber, Brooke Boals and Kassie Cline. Mayor Mike Herbert was appointed to the Emergency Management Board with Councilmember Chuck Cleveland to serve as the alternate.

City Administrator Laura Wolfe says she’s pleased with the consistency in the nominations.

“We are very thankful for the people who volunteer to sit on committees and boards for the City because we need everybody. This is their community, and we want them to feel like they’re a part and taking part in their community. It’s hard nowadays. People just have so many things to do and places to go and people to see; it’s hard to get volunteers.”

The Council approved permits for Ankeny Sanitation and Bohlman and Sons Sanitation for garbage collection, and they heard the annual report from the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library.

The Council approved La Villa Mexican Restaurant to have up to six plastic garbage cans behind their building for the business and upstairs tenants, as long as the cans do not extend into the alleyway. Additionally, the City will not be responsible for damages or replacements if problems occur.

Councilmember Carolyn Masters and Cemetery Sexton Bob Secoy discussed a replacement vase for Union Cemetery that they were able to secure for free.
