Brenda Rita (Hoffmann) Cain, age 56, of Glidden passed away on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Mercy Lakes West Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John Paul II Parish – St. Lawrence Church in Carroll with Fr. Andrew Hoffmann as Celebrant.  Music for the Mass will be by Marci Anderson with Kathleen Macke as cantor.   Lector for the Mass will be Geralyn “Geri” Shirbroun.  Honorary Gift Bearers will be Kris Anne Strain and Melinda Lewis.  Honorary Pall Bearers will be Melvin Hoffmann Jr, Joshua Hoffmann. Rodney Segebart. Ernie Segebart, Janna Chenault, Karla Rice, Kurtis Possehn. Jessica Hoffmann. June Burns, Jennette Whitver, Justin Hoffmann, Jeremy Schiltz, Rachel Huffmaster, Robyn Haggins, Joseph Hoffmann. Kelsey Hoffmann, Nicole Esslinger, Holly Namanny, Nathan Shirbroun, and Jonathan Halterman.  Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.

There will be no visitation prior to the Mass.  Those in attendance at Brenda’s Mass are asked to abide by Covid-19 guidelines and facemasks are required at the church.

Brenda was born on December 2, 1964 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of John and Linda (Thelen) Hoffmann.  She grew up in Carroll and graduated Carroll High School in 1984.  Following high school she worked at Hardees for 14 years.  She began working at Walmart when they first opened in Carroll and then moved to Clifty, Kentucky where she continued to work for Walmart and was married to Jackie Cain on March 13, 2006.  The couple lived in Kentucky until moving back to Iowa in 2014 and she worked at Subway and BP in Glidden.  Brenda was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Lawrence Parish while growing up in Carroll.  She enjoyed playing cards, dice, and games.  Brenda truly loved all her family and cherished every moment with them, especially her nieces and nephews.

Brenda is survived by her husband Jackie Cain of Glidden; two stepchildren: Aaron Cain and Lindsey Cain of Washington; two step-grandchildren: Ethan and Aubria; her siblings: brother Melvin Hoffmann of Glidden, sister Rosemary Possehn (Earl) of Ft. Dodge, brother Loras Hoffmann (Marlene) of Arcadia, brother Daryl Hoffmann of Carroll, brother Lawrence Hoffmann (Char) of Glidden, and sister Geralyn “Geri” Shirbroun (Darwin Halterman) of Bayard; her in-laws: Nelda Blake (Keith) of Rock Island, IL, Randy Cain (Jackie) of Davenport, IA, Patsy Matthews (Dale) of Poplar Bluff, MO, Barbara Cain of Kentucky, and Buddy Cain of Kentucky; and her special friend Tammie Wetzel who affectionately called Brenda her adopted Mom, and several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her dog Slappy and her cat Benny who she dearly loved.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents John and Linda Hoffmann; her father and mother-in-law Estel and Ruth Cain; a sister LaVeda Segebart; four brothers: Delbert, Cletus, John and LaVern; a nephew Joshua Hoffmann; and in-laws: Betty Reddish, James Cain, and David Cain.
