The U.S. House voted to impeach now former President Donald Trump for alleged incitement of insurrection last month.

Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District Representative Randy Feenstra voted against impeachment and says House leadership told them there was not going to be any hearings or committees, but rather there was going to be a total of one hour for anyone to make a speech on the floor of the House before the vote. Feenstra describes his displeasure of how the process went.

“It was simply political. It was a rush, a political exercise, and political theater to show the hatred for our last president. To me I was just so disappointed in the theatricks that went on.”

Feenstra notes impeaching the president is the most serious case that can be brought before a U.S. president. However, he doesn’t believe the allegation that Trump incited insurrection on the Capitol building on January 6th.

“So a gentleman gives a speech and that’s why he should get impeached. I mean there’s just nothing there to hold a candle to and say something went wrong.”

Feenstra says the Senate is planning on having hearings and holding a trial this month to get the facts out there to the public. Trump was impeached almost two years ago by the House, but was acquitted by the Senate. To hear more from Feenstra, listen to tomorrow’s Community State Bank in Paton Let’s Talk Greene County program.
