It’s the third and final day of the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, and the day started with the consolation semifinals. The winners in that round will be in the third-fourth place match this afternoon and the losers dropped into the fifth-sixth place match. Also this afternoon are the seventh place matches, and those individuals have only one match today.

The area has two Class 1A place finishers, both in seventh place matches in Ogden freshman Kolton Munson at 106 lbs. and junior Elliot Cooney of Nodaway Valley at 120 lbs. and both won. Munson won by fall in 5:20 over Drew Ehlen of Mount Ayr, and Cooney tied his match with Cade Cook of North Linn late and eventually won 6-4 in tie-breaker 2.

In 2A, the lone consolation semifinalist is Winterset’s Riley Hoven at 182 lbs. He lost by fall in 1:01 to Cael Meyer, West Delaware. Hoven finished in sixth place as he dropped a 7-2 decision in the fifth place match to Austin Roos of Benton Community.

There are four 3A wrestlers in the round from the area, one from Dallas Center-Grimes and three from Waukee. Sophomore Jacob Fistler of DC-G at 126 is in this round, as is senior Cole Ferguson at 126, junior Tanner Spyksma at 195, and junior Ben Reiland at 285, all from Waukee. Waukee’s Connor Kelley at 132 and sophomore Colin Driscoll at 152 will wrestle later for seventh place.

3A Consolation semifinals:

138 Cole Ferguson, Waukee won 4-2 over Owen Helgeson, Johnston

195 Tanner Spyksma, Waukee lost 5-3 to Sawyer Nauman, Western Dubuque

3A third place matches: 138 Cole Ferguson, Waukee won 5-2 over Carter Martinson Southeast Polk

285 Ben Reiland, Waukee lost 3-2 in tie-breaker 2 to Maddux Borcherding-Johnson, Norwalk

All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations and will be “live” with all the play-by-play today and tonight. There are seven wrestlers in the Championship matches tonight, four in 3A and three in 2A. Finalists from the area include a quartet from Waukee:

Carter Freeman 106, Koufax Christensen 113, Thurman Christensen 120, and Griffin Gammell 182, all from Waukee.

The 2A finalists are McKinley Robbons of Greene County at 120, Tyler Brown of Winterset at 152, and Wyatt Appleseth of Panorama at 160.
