The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Derelict Building Program is accepting applications through Friday.

The program focuses on neglected commercial or public structures that have been vacant for six months in towns with 5,000 or fewer residents. Funding assistance from the grant can be used for asbestos inspections and abatement, structural engineering analysis, phase one and two site assessments or building deconstruction and renovation.

Additionally, buildings involved in the program cannot be on the National Historic Registry. City governments may partner with non-profit organizations to apply for the grants and the building must have been abandoned for at least six months.
