Additional information has been released by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office concerning an ongoing investigation into a bank robbery.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says the incident happened at 10:37am Thursday at Peoples Bank in Scranton. Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio they believe the suspect to be a white male in his 20s had a handgun in the pocket of his gray hooded sweatshirt when he entered the bank, demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was also wearing sunglasses and had a gater-type facemask on. Williams says witnesses saw the suspect’s handgun, but that he never displayed it while inside the bank.

Williams notes the suspect drove off in a vehicle, which he believed was heading west. However, authorities don’t know the type of vehicle that was used by the suspect. He points out no one was hurt in the incident and he is uncertain if the suspect is still in the Scranton-area. Williams adds that they are working with the FBI and the Iowa Department of Public Safety. He says the public is not in danger at this time.

Peoples Bank President and COO John Rigler III tells Raccoon Valley Radio he is happy no one was hurt and is proud of the staff that followed their protocols and handled the situation professionally. He adds he is optimistic about the situation and they are fully comply with authorities. He says there’s been one prior bank robbery incident at a Peoples Bank location in Rippey in 2012, before the Rigler family took over ownership.
