The annual Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant awards ceremony is next week.

The deliberation process is over and invites have been sent out to those organizations and groups vying for the competitive grants. GGCGC Board President Norm Fandel explains the process their board goes through to determine what projects will receive funding, because as he points out they get more applications for funds than what is available every year.

“So to try and separate and find out which ones bubble to the top, which ones are successful, which ones get pushed out, and we certainly look at timelines in different projects. Which ones kind of are more urgent with the community. So we look at how the community really would react to some of the grants (and) what’s really needed for them.”

GGCGC is the non-profit gaming license holder for Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson. Wild Rose Jefferson General Manager Travis Dvorak says there will be an impact toward the amount of money that GGCGC receives from their adjusted gross revenue, due to being shut down because of the pandemic.

“You will see an initial drop off this year because we were shut down for 75 days, and that was just 75 days of no revenue, and they (GGCGC) get five-percent of our (adjusted gross) revenue. The good thing is since we reopened we’ve been steady and we’ve been seeing our slot revenues improvements over last year. The check isn’t as big as it was the year before but it was bigger than we expected.”

The grant awards ceremony will be held at the Greene Room events center at Wild Rose on Tuesday.
