Public health departments across the U.S. have been under siege for over a year trying to handle a fast spreading virus that has turned into a global pandemic.

This week is National Public Health Week and for Greene County Supervisor Chair John Muir, he appreciates the work that Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf and her staff have done throughout the pandemic.

“They adapted very quickly to doing everything along the way (and) the protocols that need to be done. It can scare me a little bit because not that many years ago when the hospital requested more money – and justifiably so – for our public health, thank God we continued the way we did. Through this pandemic has showed that they served very important part of us for the most part getting through this thing unscathed.”

Wolf acknowledges how hard her and her staff have done this past year, not only dealing with the pandemic, but coordinating their other programs as well.

“I’m very, very proud of our staff here at Greene County Public Health. We are mighty. We are nine in number, but we are mighty. The most wonderful thing about our public health agency is that our staff, we’re all in for taking care of the community. It’s not about us, it’s about taking care of everybody else, and we take a lot of pride in that.”

National Public Health Week is April 5th-11th.
