A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery in Glidden with Pastor Alan Miller of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden officiating.

Born on March 26, 1929, Luella was the daughter of August and Emma Fricke ne’ Arndt on her family’s farm near Coon Rapids, Iowa.  She grew up on a farm south of Glidden and graduated from Glidden High School.  On November 11, 1978, Luella married Kenneth L. Auen but the joy of their marriage was cut short when Kenny died on June 17, 1979.  Luella never remarried.  They had no children.

When her sisters, Leona Frohlich and Cleora Rohrbeck, were alive, the three of them would take road trips together.  Luella loved horses, wildlife and driving her pickup on the backroads of the US.  After her sister Leona died, Luella and Cleora continued to travel through the countryside.  The trips came to an end when Cleora entered Regency Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.  Luella soon followed her sister to Regency and lived with her in the same room until Cleora’s death in 2018.  She was an excellent seamstress.  Luella was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Glidden.

Luella is survived by her nephew, Dennis Frohlich of Boulder, Colorado, and a niece, Phyllis Frohlich, who lives in Farnhamville, Iowa.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents August and Emma Fricke; two sisters: Leona Frohlich (Ernest) and Cleora Rohrbeck (Arthur), and her husband Kenneth Auen.
