Iowa Governor Kim Reynalds signed into law legislation that would no longer require someone to obtain a permit to carry a firearm.

Iowa House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen voted in favor of the bill and explains why he supported it.

“I voted for it. I am a strong proponent for the Second Amendment (to the U.S. Constitution). Law abiding citizens will be able to carry a firearm for defense of themselves and others without first having to maintain a government permission slip.”

Sorensen says the new law does not eliminate background checks and all the existing prohibitions stay in place if you are a convicted felon. He believes there will be more background checks to come out of this and it is a better system then what is in place.  He points out that you can still get a permit to carry, if you so choose. The new law goes into effect July 1st.
