Guthrie County ISU Extension is hosting a free event tomorrow.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Fest is happening tomorrow from 10am-noon on the Panora square. Extension Youth Coordinator Mollie Clark tells Raccoon Valley Radio about 15 local businesses and organizations will talk about what they offer in this free interactive event for families of kids in kindergarten through sixth grade. She talks about the goal of the program.

“I think it’s great to show off what kids are learning in school and make those connections with different career paths that they can do. Sometimes they don’t understand fractions but then when they learn that a mechanic uses fractions, then it starts to make sense to them.”

Clark describes another fun activity with a story walk by reading the book “Gravity.”

“You’ll walk around the town square and read the book ‘Gravity.’ So this is a great thing to get people outside and to help with that literacy aspect. Parents always don’t know where to start with literacy and this is a great way to read at your child’s pace.”

No pre-registration is necessary. To hear more from Clark, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
