A ribbon cutting ceremony Monday evening in Guthrie Center officially opened a new facility with the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School.

Activities Director Cody Matthewson says the new 8,000 square foot facility includes two stories. The upper story features a 30 yard strip of turf, which can be used for auxiliary weight lifting, along with squat racks, weight benches, lat machines, and dumbbells. The lower level includes elliptical machines, treadmills, stationary bikes and access to the small gymnasium. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are two different types of memberships, including a “student” membership for those 18-23 years old and a family membership.

Matthewson explains that the membership fees will be put right back into the facility.

“Our next goal is to start outfitting the lower level with cable machines, leg presses, leg extension, bicep curls , cable machines, or plate loaded machines.”

Matthewson notes that members will have 24/7 access and can use the mens or womens locker rooms, along with showers. He adds that they raised $180,000 in 18 months to purchase all of the equipment. Contact Matthewson about an application for membership, by calling the high school in Guthrie Center.
