Greene County Public Health is following the trend of a majority of Iowa counties in declining their weekly allotment of COVID-19 vaccines from the Iowa Department of Public Health.

Public Health Director Becky Wolf says they turned down 200 doses of the Moderna vaccine last week, due to having just that many doses in storage. She talks about what IDPH does when they decline their weekly allotment.

“They reassign it to other counties where there is a higher demand and a higher number of population. Because it’s still going on that some of your bigger areas, your metro areas, it’s still a bit of a task to try and find a vaccine.”

Wolf notes the slowing demand, as well as other vaccine providers being able to secure their own doses.

“We’re in a really good position because Hy-Vee has been able to garner vaccine through the Retail Pharmacy Program, and so has Taylor (Anglemyer) at Medicap Pharmacy. They’re able to garner their own vaccine now.”

Wolf notes public health is continuing to give vaccine doses to McFarland Clinic and Greene County Family Medicine. They are also scheduling appointments to administer vaccines through public health. Contact them at 515-386-3228.
